The Alaska Design Forum wins 2010 AIA Collaborative Achievement Award

The American Institute of Architects has recognized The Alaska Design Forum (ADF) for elevating the profile of art and design in Alaska.  ADF, through its volunteer contributions and its collaborative efforts through various media, has served to nurture local architects, designers and artists in an otherwise isolated part of the world. Making available of-the-moment and state-of-the-art material from all over the world, the ADF has inspired local artists to achieve a higher quality of work. In addition to fostering legislative assistance and the preservation of historic structures, the ADF first and foremost elevates the profile of art and design in Alaska, keeping such ideas in the consciousness of its own citizens and the greater world.

Institute Honors for Collaborative Achievement are given by the American Institute of Architects to recognize and encourage distinguished achievements of allied professionals, clients, organizations, architect teams, knowledge communities, and others who have had a beneficial influence on or advanced the architectural profession. American Architectural Foundation Announces 2010 Sustainable Cities Design Academy

The American Architectural Foundation announces the 2010 Sustainable Cities Design Academy Call for Applications. AAF encourages public-private partnership project teams to apply for this unique sustainable design charrette experience. All costs associated with selected teams' participation in this program are underwritten.

Sustainable design is about the total environment - land, buildings, and people. The American Architectural Foundation (AAF) recognizes that green infrastructure and community design are integral to healthy and sustainable communities and offers the Sustainable Cities Design Academy (SCDA), a series of design charrettes that help civic leaders realize the best sustainable design solutions for their development projects.

The 2010 SCDA Call for Applications is open, and AAF encourages public-private development partnership teams to apply for one of three 2 ½ - day sustainable design charrettes. Successful applicants will work with a multi-disciplinary team of sustainable design experts during one of three programs: Seattle, Washington (May 5-7), Washington, DC (August 11-13), and Chicago, Illinois (November 14-16). SCDA charrettes are intensive collaborative work sessions that help participants develop innovative solutions. Past project team participants include:

Philadelphia Navy Yard  |  Baltimore Housing Authority  |  Fairhaven Mills: New Bedford, MA  |  Parcel 24: Boston, MA

Arts Exchange: Tallahassee, FL  |  MacArthur Square: Milwaukee, WI  |  East Bank Mills: Minneapolis, MN  |  Park 7: Washington, DC

The American Architectural Foundation (AAF) is a national nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization that educates individuals and communities about the power of architecture to transform lives and improve the places where we live, learn, work, and play.
