Part of the closing session at the 2013 AAO Conference, recent architecture school graduate and AAO Member Diana Kichler presented a brief overview of her time spent with Dallas-based bcWORKSHOP establishing its public lecture series SHOPFRONT. This presentation highlighted an initiative by Rick Lowe to use design to bring together a diverse set of densely packed ethnic communities through a pop-up marketplace of food and culture. An inspiring story of public programming snowballing into a community-based design intervention.
