Big Ditches to Bayou Greenways: Creating Public Spaces through Awareness, Design, and Advocacy (2015 Design Matters Conference)

This presentation from Linda Sylvan (Executive Director, Rice Design Alliance) was delivered during the 2015 Design Matters Conference in Chicago, IL. The slides relay a 30-year public programming journey that saw Rice Design Alliance (RDA) advocate for rediscovery of Houston’s bayou system as a potent opportunity for creating much-needed public greenspace - advocacy conducted in the form of educational programming (e.g., publications, competitions, awards, public festivals) versus overt, directed political action.
