Community Design Collaborative Receives $150,000 Matching Grant from William Penn Foundation to Launch Year-Long Urban Energy Initiative

Toronto International Design Festival

At the end of January, more than 30,000 people gathered in Toronto for a week-long celebration of design. The 2011 Toronto International Design Festival included exhibits, symposia, discussions, fairs, and parties at 23 locations throughout the city, including events at Harbourfront Centre, an AAO member.

Collaborative Achievement

At the end of last month, we brought you the news of Dallas Architecture Forum wining the AIA Collaborative Achievement Award. They continue the tradition of AAO members being recognized for commitment to their communities, as the Alaska Design Forum was honored during the 2010 awards. AAO is proud to support the work of our members to bring architecture to the forefront of public discourse.

NBM Response to Call for Arch Museum in NYC

The following letter to the editor of New York Magazine was submitted by AAO Board member Chase Rynd of the National Building Museum. The article, which appeared in the AAO January '11 e-newsletter proposes establishing an architecture museum at the site of what is currently the Whitney Museum.

Eric White on the BSA's New Home

The BSA is moving to a 17,000SF space in the recently completed Atlantic Wharf skyscraper. Located near the Greenway, public transit, and museums, the new space will provide more public exposure and three times the space of the current BSA headquarters. Höweler + Yoon's design creates a strong street presence and makes the exhibitions visible from the outside.

Dallas Architecture Forum Wins AIA Award

Congratulations to AAO Member Dallas Architecture Forum for receiving the 2011 Institute Honors for Collaborative and Professional Achievement, which recognize organizations that advance the architectural profession. DAF's extensive lecture series was praised, along with their symposia, discussions, and architecture tours.

"WPA 2.0, Working Public Architecture," asks fundamental questions of our government’s wisdom in funding infrastructure. All winners in this competition think up solutions that reveal just how bold and forward-leaning the leaps in our thinking will need to be to meet the immense challenges we face in the years to come.
