AAO Webinar - Market Street Prototyping Festival

This resource includes an audio archive from the April 2015 AAO Webinar case study of the Market Street Prototyping Festival in San Francisco. Host for this webinar was Neil Hrushowy, Manager of the City Design Group within the San Francisco Planning Department. This webinar focuses on the benefits of private-public partnerships to help municipal government improve their public engagement efforts concerning projects for the built environment. The webinar is 54 minutes long – a great primer for organizations interested in spearheading local design festivals or design competitions (or both, as was the case with the Market Street Prototyping Festival!).

Sample Annual Action Plan (or Contract) for Board Directors

This resource contains a sample Action Plan to be signed annually by an organization's board directors. This sample comes from the Community Design Collaborative in Philadelphia, PA. This can be useful document should you wish to add more specificity to a director's annual duties and expected actions other than what is called out in a more formal roles and responsibilities document; the value of the Action Plan is that is asks director's to sign and renew their commitments every year - a way of keeping your organization's priority top of mind for all directors.

Crafting Personal Narratives (2014 Design Matters Conference)

This workshop presented by Thought Warrior, Inc. at the 2014 Design Matters Conference in Washington, DC (November 12-15) focused on the challenges facing leaders of architectural organizations to explain the value and impact of design to lay audiences. Professional story coaches from Thought Warrior, Inc. worked with one AAO participant over a series of weeks; "before" and "after" pitches were presented as part of this general workshop on effective storytelling.

Boosting Your Organization's Civic Reach (2014 Design Matters Conference)

This workshop at the 2014 Design Matters Conference in Washington, DC (November 12-15) provided small group discussion on the topic of diversifying boards of directors of nonprofit design organizations.
